Law at the Front Door (CPD course)

Event date: 14 June 2023

Venue: Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University, Cardiff Civic Centre

Summary of event:

This 1-day in-person bespoke medicolegal CPD course aims to tackle some of the basic practical skills needed by EM doctors at all stages of their clinical practice, such as writing coroner’s statements and good complaint management, as well as covering some of the core principles of clinical negligence and the Death Certification process, so that these vital processes and pathways can be de-mystified.

Throughout training and into consultancy, Emergency Medicine doctors become increasingly involved in managing serious incidents, complaints or Coroners cases. Proficiency in these skills can be difficult to achieve.

With this course, we aim to increase skills and confidence in applying medicolegal theory to everyday scenarios and cover the following section of the RCEM 2021 curriculum:

  • SLO12 Managing, administer and Lead: able to manage a complaint, preparing a report, and be aware of the relevant medico-legal directives
