On 29 April 2025, SCALE (Strengthening Health Workforce Capacity through Global Learning) will host a Virtual Grand Round focused on the Ebola outbreak in Uganda, bringing together clinicians and public health leaders (including the Uganda Ministry of Health) to share insights and experiences. The session aims to share knowledge and best practices in Ebola response and emergency care, drawing directly from the experiences of those within Uganda’s emergency care system.
The SCALE Programme is a collaborative initiative between the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), the Uganda Ministry of Health, and the Uganda UK Health Alliance, established in April 2023 to strengthen emergency medicine capacity in Uganda. Through partnerships with Regional Referral Hospitals, academic institutions, and UK NHS Trusts, the programme delivers virtual clinical grand rounds and targeted training, including trauma management supported by a THET Global Capacity Building Grant. This grant has enabled hands-on teaching in ultrasound, traumatic brain injury care, and the development of clinical tools, as well as building partnerships such as between St Mary’s Hospital, Lacor and Royal United Hospital, Bath.
