The College would like to welcome Dr John-Paul (JP) Loughrey, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow, to the role of Vice President Scotland.
Dr Loughrey was previously Vice Chair Scotland and takes over the role from Dr John Thomson, who has demitted office. We wish Dr Thomson well and thank him for his dedication, advocacy, and the fantastic work he’s done for both the College and Emergency Medicine in Scotland.
Dr Loughrey said: “It is the most challenging time in Emergency Medicine that we have ever had, and it is my intention to advocate for safe, high quality Emergency Care, effective training, and sustainable working practices.
“I look forward to engaging with our aligned colleges and partners and representing your views. I will work to encourage those empowered to make the requisite changes to protect patients and staff and to take guidance and counsel from those patients and staff as to what may or may not be effective.
“I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to John Thomson for all of his endeavours and hard work over the years with the RCEM Scotland Board, both in public and behind the scenes, during some truly extraordinary times.”
