Enrolment

Resident doctors who have been accepted onto a UK Training Programme in Emergency Medicine are required to enrol with RCEM to support their training journey. The College offers ongoing support to members throughout their EM careers and the RCEM ePortfolio is an essential resource for trainees.

The initial enrolment request will be sent from RCEM shortly after you have accepted your placement and information is usually sent around June of each year of the year.

Resident doctors who have been enrolled into all levels of Training must enrol with the college, even if they have previously done so.

Please see below for a diagram of the enrolment process:

The initial enrolment email will include a link to check and confirm your personal data as provided by NHSE to set up your account and access with RCEM.

Core vs Run-through

At the point of enrolment, it is important to confirm whether you have been recruited into Core or Run-through training.

Transition from core to higher training is not automatic; trainees need to meet eligibility criteria and undergo a competitive recruitment process for higher specialty training.

Trainees who have selected Run-through are guaranteed progression into Higher Training, provided they meet the required competencies at each stage, making it a more seamless journey.

Further information

Depending on whether there is existing membership with RCEM, you will be asked to join or update this to the appropriate membership level.

If you have existing ePortfolio access, this will be updated or set up for new access.

Once you’ve enrolled, your RCEM membership will be activated within 48 hours. Your ePortfolio account will then be set up, and your login details will be sent to you on Monday 4th August 2025 in time for your post start date.

ePortfolio

Ensure you enrol well ahead of your start date in order to ensure you have access to your ePortfolio in time for your inductions/initial supervisor meetings. Login details for the ePortfolio will be sent separately following completion of the enrolment form.

If you already have access to ePortfolio, your account will be updated to reflect your new training status and you will have access to the curriculum you require.
