Each summer, the College invites proposals for those wanting to hold a study day with us the following year.
A study day is a one day event which covers a particular topic of importance for the EM workforce. The College runs approximately 40 study days per year covering a broad range of topics, both clinical and non-clinical. Study days can be put forward by any EM clinician, whether they have events experience or not. The RCEM events team will be on hand throughout the process to support you and make the process as smooth as possible.
To propose a study day, you need to complete the study day proposal form and submit it by Monday 6 July. The proposal forms will then be reviewed, and you will be informed whether your proposal has been approved at the end of August.
This is your opportunity to get involved with delivering high quality CPD and education to your emergency medicine community. If you have a topic you’re passionate about, want to share your expertise with peers or know engaging, interesting and exciting speakers who can inspire and educate others then we want to hear from you!

Review criteria
Study day proposals are reviewed by members of the RCEM Education Resources Committee including the ACP Forum, EMSAS and EMTA representatives of that committee.
They will be reviewed in line with the following criteria:
- How complete is the form?
- How relevant is the content to EM in general?
- How many SLOs and GMC domains does the programme cover?
- How diverse is the event faculty?
- How interactive is the programme?
Each of these criteria will be marked out of 5, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent. An average score will then be taken from all reviewers and the events will be ranked from highest to lowest scoring. The reviewers will then meet to discuss each proposal in turn before making a final decision on whether to run the event.
More information about the review criteria and the information needed on the form can be found in the proposal guidance.
Drop in sessions
The two sessions will be held on Friday 29 May at 10:00 and Thursday 25 June at 15:00.
Please sign up for the drop in sessions here, and you’ll be emailed the joining instructions in the days prior to the sessions.
If you’re unable to make a drop in session, or would prefer to have a chat in private or via email, please email events@rcem.ac.uk and we’d be happy to arrange this with you.
Next steps
The deadline for submission of proposals is close of play on Monday 6 July.
