Dr Sarah Honess has officially taken up the post of South East England Regional Chair for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
Dr Sarah Honess, a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at University Hospitals Sussex and former Clinical Lead at UHB, has officially taken up her post as Regional Chair for the South East in England.
Dr Honess said, “There is no doubt that the last few years have been a struggle in most Emergency Departments, not only regionally, but nationally and internationally too.
“As a specialty we are used to not only working but thriving in austere and adverse environments. Most of us feel at home in our own organised chaos. However, even for us, it has been hard and relentlessly so, with no immediate signs of reprieve.
“In spite of that there’s still a lot to celebrate and be proud of. Where else do you see such collaborative teamworking and flat hierarchy? Who else gets to open a chest and deliver a baby in the same shift? Who else has the conversations we do at 4am, and where else can you see the very best and worst of human nature, all in one corridor?
“I’d like to use this role to help celebrate what makes us great. I’d like to see us defend and define our core work and unique skillset. I’d like to show-case and share examples of innovation and excellent practice from across the region for the benefit of our patients and to inspire the next generation. I hope you will help me on this journey.”
The College is pleased to announce Dr Honess and wishes her every success in his new role.
