Dr Salwa Malik, Vice President of The Royal College of Emergency Medicine with responsibility for membership, said: “The Award of MRCEM is through successful completion of the membership exam. Passing the College membership exams means the individual becomes a Member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and is entitled to use the MRCEM post nominal.
“In recognition of the contribution and role Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) play in the provision of Emergency Medicine, last year The College reopened ‘Member by Election’ by which ACPs can become members.
“In order to qualify for membership by election an ACP must have achieved RCEM credentialing and have been working in UK Emergency Medicine as a Credentialled ACP for a minimum of 36 months. This membership does not entitle the member to use the MRCEM post nominal.
“I hope that offers come clarity on the situation, and there is further information on the membership pages of our website.”
