The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) has announced that it is providing no cost to membership subscription for members on new parents’ leave.
The decision was made at RCEM’s Council meeting on 8 June 2023 and will take effect immediately.
The College has also agreed to back-date the policy to 1 January 2023 – which means all members currently on new parents’ leave will be refunded their membership subscriptions paid for 2023.
The new approach was adopted in recognition of the financial pressures members can face while on leave after becoming parents.
The policy covers members who take adoption, as well as periods of maternity or paternity leave of longer than one month.
