RCEM is seeking a Curriculum Sub-Committee (CSC) Chair to lead the development and ongoing improvement of the Emergency Medicine curriculum and ensure it meets GMC requirements.
This honorary role involves chairing the Curriculum Sub-Committee, overseeing curriculum development and implementation, and working closely with the Training Standards Committee and other stakeholders.
Applicants must be Fellows of the College, on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine, and in a current substantive consultant post, with experience in medical education and training.
📍 Applicants must be RCEM members in good standing, working in active clinical practice, with an interest in environmental sustainability. Assessors must also consent to their contact details being shared with GreenED Leads.

RCEM is seeking to appoint a Dean (Fellow of RCEM) to join its College Executive Team at an important time for the College and the specialty. We are looking for an individual committed to high-quality education and training, strong academic leadership, and advancing emergency medicine. About the Role
The Dean is the senior elected Fellow responsible for leadership of education and training within the College. Working with the Director of Education and Senior Leadership Team, the Dean ensures delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and future-focused education aligned with regulatory standards.
The role provides strategic leadership across curricula, assessment, and training pathways, ensuring they are evidence-based and responsive to workforce and patient needs.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a Fellow of RCEM in good standing with experience in education, training, and leadership. You will demonstrate strategic thinking, sound judgement, and the ability to work collaboratively across stakeholders.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in good standing who can contribute insight, challenge and judgement at Board level. You do not need previous trustee experience, but you must be willing to engage fully with the responsibilities of charity trusteeship and think strategically and independently.

This role is suitable for a lay (non-clinical) individual with senior-level experience in IT, digital or technology leadership. You will be comfortable operating at Board level and able to translate complex technical issues into clear strategic insight.

Lay Advisory Group
Are you passionate about healthcare and the future of Emergency Medicine in Scotland or Northern Ireland? RCEM is seeking non-medical individuals from these nations to join our Lay Advisory Group (LAG) and contribute to the work of our national boards.
This voluntary role brings the patient and public perspective into College discussions—helping shape policy, standards, and training in Emergency Medicine. You’ll attend meetings, provide insight on care experiences, and ensure that patient voices are considered at every level.
📍 Applicants must live in Scotland or Northern Ireland and must not have a clinical background or conflicts of interest related to A&E.
📅 Time commitment: Approx. 12 days per year, mostly virtual meetings

Portfolio Pathway evaluator
Are you interested in this very important role which involves ensuring that Emergency Departments are led by consultants who have all the necessary competences? Are you a Member, Fellow or Associate Fellow of RCEM who is currently practising in EM in the NHS and is informed about the latest EM curriculum?
We currently need evaluators from all over the UK.
The portfolio pathway assessor training days for 2026 are as per below.

Joining the panel does require attendance of at least one of the training days. However, if you’re unable to attend these dates, please do not let this discourage you from applying. We can arrange further training or add you to a date in 2027 once they are confirmed

FAQs
Are committee roles only for those who have been closely involved with the College before?
No, certainly not. Our committee roles are open to all members not just those who have worked in Emergency Medicine for years! We are always keen to help those who have not previously had a role with us to get involved.
So, should I apply even if I have not been involved in the College before?
Absolutely! We are very keen to encourage those who have not been involved in the College to apply; if you have the skills and the passion, please do apply.
We can provide induction into College processes to support those who are not familiar with committees in the medical Royal College sector.
I have the passion and the skills but not enough experience, should I still apply?
Yes! You might think that you do not have the experience, but if you are working in the field of Emergency Medicine, you probably do!
Aside from clinical skills, Emergency Medicine requires a depth of interpersonal skills: management, communication, influencing skills for example. Emphasise the skills you have, and think about soft skills such as communication, leadership, and team working.
How should I go about writing my application?
Before you write your application, you should study the role profile in detail. Pay particular attention to the member specification aspect of the profile and ensure your application addresses the points outlined.
I am really interested in becoming a committee member, but I am not sure about the time commitment.
we utilise virtual meetings and other media to reduce the need for travel. We expect that duties will be primarily conducted from your normal place of work or from the comfort of your own home. Committee meetings take place 4 times per year on average.
Will my expenses be covered if there’s in-person meetings?
When meetings do happen face to face then travel expenses will be covered as per our Expenses Policy. RCEM staff member responsible for Regional Chair recruitment can provide more information.
Can I ask my Trust to support me with time off?
Given the pressures the system is experiencing, we do understand that our Members and Fellows are needed for frontline services. However, there is often support provided to allow some recognition for College work, particularly as it can be developmental. More details: Appropriate release of medical colleagues for the purposes for carrying out work for the wider health system.
Will I have any support from the College?
Absolutely! The College is always here to support you in the role and with all responsibilities and duties you may have. We want to ensure that you can carry out the role to the best of your abilities and are therefore happy to provide as much support as you need to fulfil the role effectively.
