2 February 2026

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine is pleased to confirm the appointment of a new Chair for the South East of England Regional Board.

Dr Chidi Uba, an Emergency Medicine Consultant at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, officially assumed the new role in January 2026 following appointment in November last year.

He succeeds Dr Sarah Honess, who represented RCEM’s South East members from December 2022 until Dr Uba’s appointment.

Dr Uba said: “I would like to thank Dr Honess for the outstanding leadership she exhibited during her tenure, during which she championed collaboration, innovation and the strengths of Emergency Medicine in the South East of England.

“I’m keen to build on the strong foundations she has established. My focus will be on engagement and representation, ensuring the voices of EM staff in the South East are represented in College work.

“It is a difficult time to work in ED, to say the least. I hope that by sharing good practice and strengthening links between departments and the College we can continue to drive improvements in practice that, ultimately, make EM a better specialty to work in.”

RCEM’s Regional Chairs act as leaders on Emergency Medicine in their area, and provide advice to trusts, commissioners and College members.

The College wishes Dr Uba every success in his new role.
