Confirmation RCEM’s FRCEM SBA examination will go ahead during industrial action

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that joint industrial action by Post-graduate Doctors in Training (Junior Doctors) and consultants will be taking place in the coming weeks including on 4 October 2023 when RCEM’s FRCEM SBA examination is taking place.
Following internal discussions, the College can confirm that this examination will go ahead as planned.

We recognise the importance of this exam to all candidates, particularly those who will need it to support their career progression.
This has been agreed and supported by our Dean, Chief Examiner, and supported by the Emergency Medicine Trainee Association (EMTA) as well as the College teams who deliver the exam.

Candidates who wish to take industrial action and choose not to sit the FRCEM SBA on 4 October 2023 should email exams@rcem.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 22 September 2023 to withdraw.
Any candidate who withdraws by this deadline in order to take part in industrial action will receive a full refund and will be able to reapply for a future FRCEM SBA at a later date.
Any candidate who does not withdraw by this deadline and does not attend the exam will forfeit their examination fee.
Any member taking industrial action can also choose to attend to sit their examination as planned.
If you still wish to sit your exam you do not need to contact us.
Members who are not taking industrial action but are either required to or choose to work on emergency cover as a result may also withdraw from the examination by 5pm on Friday 22 September 2023 and will receive a full refund.
If any candidates have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing exams@rcem.ac.uk
