Diagnosis of Monkeypox in the Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS)

Guidance as of 27/05/2022

For any case of suspected or confirmed Monkeypox infection identified in an Emergency Department in England, clinicians are advised to:

  1. Submit the following code: 359814004 |Monkeypox (disorder)|
  2. In the DISEASE OUTBREAK NOTIFICATION (SNOMED CT) field in ECDS

From 08/06/2022

The following code: 359814004 |Monkeypox (disorder)| will appear in the ECDS core diagnosis list and consequently can be used as a primary diagnosis with the qualifier ‘suspected’ or ‘confirmed’.

Individual trusts are advised to contact their electronic health record suppliers to ensure that their diagnosis list is up to date so that the Monkeypox diagnosis is available to clinicians.
