Profile: I have been actively involved in the forum since its inception and have served two terms as a regional representative before transitioning into my current role as co-chair. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing ACP development at both local and national levels and have worked tirelessly to ensure that ACPs across the UK have a voice, collaborating with organisations such as HEE, RCEM, and various regional ACP forums to influence change.

As a Senior and Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner within a well-established, multi-disciplinary ACP team, I bring 18 years of Emergency Medicine experience, 13 of which have been in a substantive ACP role. As one of the first two nurses to credential with RCEM, I have a thorough understanding of the curriculum, credentialing process, and the training needs of ACPs.

I am committed to maintaining this momentum, leveraging my clinical and strategic expertise to advocate for the workforce and shape the future of ACP service development alongside Jon.

Region: North West

Primary Profession: Nurse

Email: acpforumcredentialingrep@rcem.ac.uk

Profile: I qualified as a nurse in 1997 and spent 17 years working in acute medicine before embarking on my ACP journey. I completed the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice in 2012 and successfully achieved RCEM adult credentialing in autumn 2021.

I have worked in emergency medicine for the past 8 years, in both a tertiary hospital and district general hospital (DGH) in the northwest as an ACP. My current role is the lead ACP at NMGH ED, this role provides the opportunity to continue to work clinically along with the leading and developing the ACP team.

My main goals as a RCEM ACP forum representative would be to build on the work the team have already commenced, provide support to ACPs undertaking the credentialing process and working with college to develop beyond credentialing. The last few years the ACP voice is now being heard; I want to take this to the next level along with the RCEM ACP forum. My main interest alongside leadership is to ensure patient safety and improve clinical practice for all our patients in challenging times.

Region: West Midlands

Primary Profession: Paramedic

Email: acpforumEDIrep@rcem.ac.uk

Profile: I have been a registered Paramedic for 14 years and have spent the last 7 years as an ACP in Emergency Medicine. I completed my Master’s in Advanced Practice at the University of Warwick and successfully credentialed in Adults and Paediatrics on the 2017 curriculum.

This is my second term on the ACP forum, having represented the West Midlands on my first term and now focusing on EDI, sitting on the West Midlands Regional board and on the RCEM EDI Committee. EDI has been my passion for many years, both focusing on our workforce and on our patients. My focus within RCEM is to ensure that the diversity of ACPs is recognised within the College and all ACPs are supported and encouraged to succeed. I believe the professional diversity of ACPs is a unique benefit and, if supported correctly, allows us to reflect our patient’s diversity and provide the highest level of care.

I have recently been awarded NIHR funding to develop national equitable emergency care access research allowing me to not only bring ACPs to the forefront of national research but also to focus EM research and awareness on EDI.

Profile: I am a credentialled paediatric ACP working within a paediatric Emergency Department for 100% of my clinical time. I am driven to not only improve care for children within my own department but nationally within the speciality. I have been working in advanced practice for 7 years, with 12 years of experience of nursing within Emergency Medicine.

I have a good understanding of not only advanced practice within paediatric emergency medicine but of the speciality as a whole having spent most of my working career within it. I am committed about setting and maintaining high standards within paediatric Emergency Medicine, ensuring that education is focused for all of those that I teach. I am also driven to build a thriving network of paediatric ACPs within emergency medicine who can grow and develop individually and as a team.

My passion for paediatric emergency medicine advanced practice and ensuring that the speciality continues to advance has led me to embark on a professional doctorate. The focus of this is on the education provided by ACPs to other staff. This programme has required me to maintain high standards of communication, literacy and IT skills.

I have presented my research methodology at a conference; demonstrating my confidence to talk to a large group of people. Research within advanced practice will enable the profession to continue to grow and I believe should be driven from those of us within the service.
