Chest drain insertion course

This event covers safety issues, pre-procedural assessments, the role of radiology in insertion of chest drains safely and how to deal with complications. Video demonstrations will be given, before delegates join practical workshops on state-of-the-art mannequins in small groups.

Please note, registration for this event will close on Tuesday 15 September, but may close earlier if capacity is reached.

Learning objectives: 

  • To increase awareness of mortality and morbidity secondary to chest drain insertion
  • To increase awareness of use of appropriate imaging and limitation of conventional radiology
  • To provide hands-on experience on both medical and surgical chest drain insertion on state-of-the-art mannequins
  • To discuss safety issues, learning requirements and a number of procedures to be competent

Clinicians at all levels in EM, acute medicine and intensive care medicine.
