Patron of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, has thanked Emergency Medicine staff for their vital work looking after patients in need of care.

Her Royal Highness made the remarks during an address to nearly 50 delegates at RCEM’s Senior Fellows Lunch event, held at the College, last week week (16 October 2025) which provides an opportunity for retired Fellows to reunite, network and share memories of working in the specialty.

Her Royal Highness also delivered a short speech to the Fellows.

Dr Boyle said: “It was a privilege to welcome Her Royal Highness to our Senior Fellows Lunch. Her presence marks the second event The Princess Royal has attended this year and comes as we celebrate 10 years since RCEM was granted the title ‘Royal’.

“She showed her appreciation to our Fellows for their many years of service and the pioneering work to advance the specialty over the years.

“Her Royal Highness also acknowledged the pressures EM clinicians continue to be under.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Her Royal Highness at the College. Our organisation is lucky to have such a passionate and attentive Patron.

“From the College, and on behalf of its members, we thank The Princess Royal for her continued support.”

The Princess previously attended RCEM’s Spring CPD Conference in Birmingham in March 2025.

The College was granted the title ‘Royal’ on 4 February 2015 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, acting on advice of her Ministers and so became The Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
