It is 10 years since the College of Emergency Medicine became the ‘Royal’ College of Emergency Medicine.
This month (May 2025) four members of The College have attended Royal Garden parties at Buckingham Palace as RCEM marks the important milestone.
At the start of the month, RCEM’s Vice President for Scotland Dr Fiona Hunter and Vice President Treasure, Dr James Gagg, attended the Garden Party hosted by King Charles III.
And last week (20 May 2025) RCEM’s London Regional Chair Dr Samira Akberali and West Midland Regional Chair, Dr Su Dorrian, attended another garden party at the same venue.
Dr Hunter said, “It was a great honour representing RCEM at the first Royal Garden Party of the season – where Dr Gagg and I had the privilege of meeting the Queen.
“The event, in the sunshine at the palace gardens, was made even more special knowing it coincides with the College’s 10th anniversary of receiving its Royal title.
“As RCEM’s Patron, Princess Anne’s continued support for RCEM and the specialty is deeply valued by our members.”
Dr Akberali said, “I was incredibly proud to attend this prestigious event on behalf of RCEM, our members and the specialty.
“It was a fantastic afternoon with Dr Dorrian – discussing Urgent and Emergency Care with others – as we gathered on palace grounds.”
As part of the celebrations the College has created a series of commemorative versions of its logo which will be used throughout the rest of the year.
The graphics maintain the College’s traditional colour pallet of purple and white but have subtle elements of gold added.
Gordon Miles, Chief Executive Officer of RCEM said: “We are very proud of being a designated ‘Royal’ Medical College and we know it means a great deal to our staff and our members. We take great pride in our Royal title.
“We are honoured to have a very engaged Royal Parton in Her Royal Highness Princess Anne who dedicates so much of her time supporting the College and attending our events.
“These special logos are a nice way to publicly acknowledge what having a Royal Charter means to us and to celebrate this fantastic milestone of 10 years.”
