Responding to the result of the British Medical Association (BMA) ballot in favour of industrial action by Consultants in England, Dr Adrian Boyle, President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, said:
“We recognise our members’ and colleagues’ right to take industrial action. The resounding yes in favour of industrial action given by consultants today is a further indication that staff do not feel valued. All health workers need to feel valued and appreciated.
“It is essential that discussions begin, and a swift resolution is found before Consultants take industrial action.”
