RCEM Responds to General Election announcement

Wednesday 22 May 2024

Responding to the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calling a General Election on 4 July 2024, President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Dr Adrian Boyle, said: “Now we have a date for the election it is more important than ever that all political parties lay out clearly what they intend to do to reverse the crisis being experienced in every part of our NHS.

“A crisis which is always most evident in the crowded corridors and ambulance-filled car parks of A&Es across the country.

“It won’t be easy, and it will take strong leadership and some tough decisions but all the problems are fixable.

“Our policy recommendations set out clearly what needs to be done. And given the summer date there may even be time to avert another A&E winter crisis if decisive action is taken.

“As ever, we are ready and willing to work with the next government to #ResuscitateEmergencyCare; for the good of our members, their patients and society as a whole.”
