Study day proposals

Study day proposals

Each summer, the College invites proposals for those wanting to hold a study day with us the following year.

Study Days

The study day proposal window for 2025 events is now closed and we’re unable to take any further proposals at this time.

The proposal window for 2026 will open in summer 2025. You can find out more about what the process entails below.

A study day is a one day event which covers a particular topic of importance for the EM workforce. The College runs approximately 40 study days per year covering a broad range of topics, both clinical and non-clinical. Study days can be put forward by any EM clinician, whether they have events experience or not. The RCEM events team will be on hand throughout the process to support you and make the process as smooth as possible.

Guidance and Assistance

+ Proposal guidance

We have put together a guidance document to support you when putting together your proposal.

This document discusses the key elements of running a study day including:

  • Who attends study days
  • Study day formats
  • How we decide which events to run
  • What we are looking for in a proposal form
  • Review criteria
  • Time commitment if your event is approved

Click here to download the study day proposal guidance.

+ The proposal form

When the proposal window opens, you will be asked to complete the study day proposal form.

This includes sections on:

  • Organiser details
  • Programme and speakers
  • CPD content and how the programme meets the RCEM curriculum and GMC revalidation domains
  • Marketing information

The proposal form for 2026 events is not yet ready, however you can view the proposal form for 2025 events here to give you an idea of what information we’ll be looking for.

+ Review criteria

Study day proposals are reviewed by the Chair of the RCEM Education Resources Committee as well as the ACP Forum, EMSAS and EMTA representatives of that committee.

They will be reviewed in line with the following criteria:

  • How complete is the form?
  • How relevant is the content to EM in general?
  • How many SLOs and GMC domains does the programme cover? Alternatively, how does the programme deliver strategic aim 2 from the RCEM Corporate Plan 2024 – 2026?
  • How diverse is the event faculty?
  • How interactive is the programme?

Each of these criteria will be marked out of 5, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent. An average score will then be taken from all reviewers and the events will be ranked from highest to lowest scoring. The reviewers will then meet to discuss each proposal in turn before making a final decision on whether to run the event.

More information about the review criteria and the information needed on the form can be found in the proposal guidance.

+ Drop in sessions

We will be holding drop in sessions during the proposal window to help with any queries you may have. We’ll be able to answer questions about:

  • How to apply
  • What we’re looking for
  • The review process
  • What happens after your event has been approved

The dates for the drop in sessions have not yet been set, but if you’re interested in attending one, please register your interest here and we’ll contact you as soon as the dates have been confirmed.
