Face-to-face event | RCEM accredited for 7-CPD points
The paediatric procedural sedation day is a multi-disciplinary study day open to anyone working in the paediatric emergency department. The aim is to train up further sedationists, encourage proceduralists to understand how ketamine sedation works, and help nurses to identify appropriate patients early. The theme of the event is to re-iterate ketamine’s proven safety profile and encourage appropriate delivery of this in the PED. Ketamine reduces length of stay and admissions, decreases the need for theatre and a general anaesthetic, and overall improves the patient’s journey.
Please note, this event is now fully booked. Please click here to join the waiting list, and we’ll contact you if a space becomes available.
Learning objectives:
- To ensure ketamine’s pharmacology, mechanism of action, and adverse effects is understood
- To understand alternative sedation agents and when these would be best used (exemplified using clinical cases)
- To ensure RCEM 2020 guidance is being followed in selecting patients, and delivering ketamine sedation
- To use simulation to help candidates feel confident in consenting patient, including in difficult communication scenarios
