Event Summary

This event brings together critical topics in adolescent emergency medicine, focusing on the unique challenges faced by young people in today’s fast-changing world. Experts will explore best practices for managing mental health crises, self-harm, eating disorders, and medically unexplained symptoms in the ED. Practical guidance will be offered on navigating complex issues like sexual health, consent, and capacity in adolescent care.

Learning objectives:

  • Define the key themes in acute adolescent medicine
  • Describe treatment options for acute mental and sexual health conditions
  • Review current approaches to address the safeguarding needs of young people
  • Explore different communication approaches to use with young people
  • Review the important components of consent and capacity as relating to young people

Project Showcase Submission

We would like to hear about the great work which is going on around designing, modifying or delivering outstanding care to our adolescent patients in the ED. 

Three submissions covering different aspects of adolescent care will be invited to present their abstract with a 10-minute talk at the online event on Wednesday 22 October. All other submissions will be shared at the event so that all the delegates can learn from your work.

Please note that all oral and poster presenters will need to register for the event. RCEM is unable to reimburse registration fees of successful presenters.

The closing date for submission of abstracts is Wednesday 10 September.
