The College is delighted to announce the appointments of Dr Ian Higginson, Dr Jason Long, Dr Salwa Malik, and Dr Maya Naravi to roles of Vice President.
All four will take up the role from 4 October, with the RCEM AGM on the same day being their first official College event.
Dr Ian Higginson said: “I’m chuffed to be re-appointed as Vice President, as part of a new team of colleagues, supporting our new President. It’s a tough time for us all in our departments at the moment, and I’m determined to play my part helping support and develop our speciality, whilst advocating strongly for a better future.”
Dr Jason Long said: “I’m delighted to take up role of VP of RCEM. This is a challenging time for the specialty of EM and it has never been more important to press the case for improved staffing and flow within EDs. I’m very much looking forward to working with the new president and other VPs.”
Dr Salwa Malik said: “I am deeply honoured and delighted to be appointed to the role of VP (Membership) and I hope to bring a fresh, dynamic, positive perspective, with a view to improving engagement with our members, identifying their current and prospective needs and requirements, and thinking of innovative ways for our college to grow, develop and flourish. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous work and tireless efforts of my predecessor, Dr Carole Gavin.”
Dr Maya Naravi said: “This will be a real opportunity to influence the Educational/Training agenda and voice what really matters for Emergency Medicine for the workforce of today and of the future. We need to do our utmost to keep Emergency Medicine as an attractive career for all staff at all levels and backgrounds, amongst the sea of challenges we are currently facing. The next three years will require focus and energy, I look forward to working with RCEM President and team over the next few years to keep the pace moving forward.”
Speaking about the appointment of the Vice President, RCEM President-elect, Dr Adrian Boyle said: “I’m thrilled to have all four onboard. It was a very strong field of candidates and I thank everyone who applied, but these four were the standouts. Higgi, Jason, Maya and Salwa will bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and energy to all four roles and I have no doubt they will be great for the College. I look forward to working with them all as we continue to navigate tough times and seek to improve EM for both our members and patients.”
The College congratulates all of our incoming Vice Presidents and would like to offer our sincere thanks to Dr Lisa Munro-Davies and Dr Carole Gavin for their hard work and dedication in their roles as VPs over the past three years.
