A book which presents important need-to-know information for all those involved in treating patients in an emergency setting has just been updated and re-published.
The RCEM Lecture Notes: Emergency Medicine serves as a starting point to support initial teaching on the subject and reference or revision at the end of a module, rotation or final exams.
This fifth edition has been co-edited by RCEM Fellows Catherine Williams and Amy Nickson and combines flowcharts and illustrations with revised content to reflect recent advances in the field of emergency medicine.
Dr Williams said: “Producing a textbook for a speciality as broad and wide ranging as Emergency Medicine is a daunting task, and we are grateful for the expert contributions of the senior Emergency Physicians and fellows of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine who have given their time and expertise to support this project, as well as the previous authors Chris Moulton and David Yates, on whose work this fifth edition is founded. We hope that this text will be a valuable learning tool for those new to our speciality, as well as a reference and revision tool for more seasoned Emergency Physicians”
The work contains information on major trauma and injuries, burns, contamination, irradiation and poisoning, acute medical surgical and obstetric conditions and paediatric emergency medicine, among other subjects.
Co-edited by Catherine and Amy, both based at the Royal Bolton Hospital, it updates the fourth edition of Lecture Notes: Emergency Medicine which was authored by RCEM Fellows Chris Moulton and David Yates. Dr Moulton was also a previous vice-president of the Royal College for six years (2013-19).
