As a Royal College of Emergency Medicine we are proud to be a diverse specialty, representing the very best of multi-ethnic, multi-racial Britain and beyond. We are proud of our excellent teams whose beliefs, backgrounds and belonging bring strength, skill and empathy when dealing with such tragedies as the recent Southport attack.
We strongly denounce the recent shocking Islamophobic and racist disorder being committed in the UK.
It has also come to our attention that several members of NHS staff have been attacked and harassed whilst travelling to work. This must stop now. We condemn the disgraceful and dangerous actions of those who seek to divide us as a nation. We have no tolerance for any form of hate or abuse witnessed or experienced by staff in our Emergency Departments.
