2 June 2023
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that further industrial action by junior doctors will be taking place between 14 and 17 June 2023. These dates clash with the College’s MRCEM OSCE examination in London (12 to 20 June 2023).
Following internal discussions with EMTA and EMSAS, the College can confirm that these examinations will go ahead as planned.
The College recognises the importance of this exam to all candidates, particularly those who will need it to support their career progression in August.
This has been agreed by our Dean, Chief Examiner, Lead Examiners and supported by the Emergency Medicine Trainee Association (EMTA) and College teams who deliver the exam.
The College is grateful to all Examiners who have committed their time to support these examinations, particularly to those from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Armed Forces who are unaffected by these strikes. They have stepped in to support this examination at short notice to fill the gaps left by other Examiners who have had to rearrange their commitments in light of industrial action.
Candidates who wish to take industrial action and choose not to sit the MRCEM OSCE on these dates should email firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday 7 June 2023 at 10am to withdraw.
Any candidate who withdraws by this deadline in order to take part in industrial action will receive a full refund and will be able to reapply for a future MRCEM OSCE at a later date. Any candidate who does not withdraw by this deadline and does not attend the exam will forfeit their examination fee.
Any member taking industrial action can also choose to attend to sit their examination as planned. If you still wish to sit your exam you do not need to contact us and should attend as outlined in our previous allocation email.
Members who are not taking industrial action but who are either required to or choose to work on emergency cover as a result may also withdraw from the examination by Wednesday 7 June 2023 at 10am and will receive a full refund.
If any candidates have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing email@example.com.
