EMTA statement on industrial action

The Emergency Medicine Trainees’ Association (EMTA) provides a voice for EM trainees, and facilitates dialogue between trainees and RCEM to improve the quality and equity of training and working conditions.

The EMTA Committee is made of EM trainees from around the country who take up positions on RCEM committees and special interest groups addressing service delivery, training standards, education, quality of care and service development. By representing the opinions and experiences of EM trainees to these committees, EMTA plays an active role in developing national policy and strategy to improve EM training. By delivering the highest standard of training, we will improve the quality of care we deliver.

Success stories for EMTA include advocating for increased EDT time, postponing FRCEM membership fees to post-CCT and the removal of the final QIP examination, introducing the Rest & Rota charter across over 50 Emergency Departments and our annual conference.

Our values and aims are formally set out in our statement of Purpose, Vision and Values.

Our Terms of Reference ensure that while EMTA is integrated into RCEM, we maintain our independence, which allows us to remain credible advocates for EM trainees.

EMTA Survey

EMTA have conducted regular surveys of EM trainees since 2016 to explore experiences of training and working in EM. These surveys help to inform EMTA policy and to prioritise and identify adverse trends in training delivery. The full findings are published on the EMTA website.

The results of the EMTA 2021 survey are being released currently.
