We have received final approval from the GMC for the submitted curriculum for 2021. The Curriculum Sub-Committee would like to thank all those in the wider EM community who fed in to the development by answering surveys, asking questions of the team, and providing feedback. The 2021 Curriculum is available in an interactive format via the bespoke RCEMCurriculum website.
A PDF version of the 2021 EM Curriculum is also now available for download.
See also the RCEM 2021 Curriculum Ultrasound Education & Training.
The new curriculum was implemented on 4 August 2021.
We have also been working with our intercollegiate partners in Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) training to describe the Curriculum for ACCS. The ACCS Learning Outcomes are 9 of the EM Speciality Learning Outcomes with additional Learning outcomes for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

More information about WPBA and the new assessment schedule from August 2015 is on the RCEM website here: The 2015 RCEM WPBA schedule.
RCEM recognises current certification in the following courses as being equivalent to those mentioned in the curriculum and should be considered as such in evidence in the ARCP:
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Please note that the RCEM Training Standards Committee has agreed that EMST (Early Management of Severe Trauma) can be accepted for entry to ST4, but currently ATLS or ETC is required for exit.
The College has produced guidance for the completion of the management portfolio component of the Emergency Medicine curriculum. The management portfolio is part of the workplace-based assessment (WPBA) schedule for higher training and should be completed within ST3-ST6. Trainees are required to complete a minimum of four assignments which must include the two mandatory assignments: ‘Managing a complaint’ and ‘Managing a critical incident’. At least one of the four assignments must include working with other specialties as part of the assignment. Trainees and trainers are encouraged to use benchmarking to ensure that the four assignments are at the standard expected of a newly appointed consultant.
The guidance contains a list of other Management Portfolio topics and examples of benchmarking criteria for the two mandatory assignments. It will also be useful for specialty doctors gathering evidence for a CESR application.
Benchmark sheets are also available for the following non-mandatory assignments. Please note that the management course benchmarking sheet can also be utilised to benchmark any of the management training domain projects (leadership, equality and diversity or other relevant).
