Emergency Department staff have the right to work in safety

13 June 2019

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine is concerned about the rising violence against those working in the NHS and especially those working in emergency departments. These staff deserve to practice their skills free from concerns about their personal safety. This College condemns any form of violence and aggression against dedicated and hard-working emergency department staff.

President, Dr Taj Hassan, said: “Senseless attacks on NHS personnel are becoming all too frequent. This latest incident at Newham University Hospital is frightening. The staff working in emergency departments providing essential services seven days a week, 24 hours a day, must have respect, safety and protection. In a civilised society that is the very least they deserve.”
