18 July 2019

Figures released today by the Welsh Government for June 2019 continued strain faced by Emergency Departments across Wales.

Data for June 2019 shows that 72.0% of patients were seen within the four-hour target in major departments. This is an increase from May 2019 of only 0.7 percentage points and a decrease of 8.63% when compared to June 2018.

The number of patients waiting 12 hours or more in an emergency care facility was 4034. This is a decrease of 1230 patients compared to January 2019.

Dr Jo Mower, Vice President of RCEM Wales said: “Today’s data shows that poor performance is a year-round reality in Wales. Staff working in Emergency Departments welcomed initiatives rolled out by the Welsh Government to ease winter pressures last year and hope to see some of these initiatives continue into next Winter”.
